Skymaster F-4 Chute Systems Instructions

Using a cut off wheel , cut the rear chute door section off the airframe along the panel line on the rear of the fuse. Be sure to leave the panel line on the fuse for fitting the new door.

Carefully sand the panel line/ cut off on the fuse until the front of the new door fits the fuse well. Install the chute tube assembly into the fuse flush with the rear of the fuse. see photo #1

Referring to photo #2, install the plunger/piston assembly into the chute tube. Using a 1/16" drill bit, drill thru the rear of the chute tube and plastic doubler into the ply stab plate. Install the #2 servo screw provided. Photo #3 & #4.

While holding the piston ply mount to the fuse, drill the two mounting screws using a 5/64" drill bit. Install the two #4 screws thru the fuse and thru the ply mount .See photo #5

Assemble the valve assembly as shown in photo #6 and route the airlines forward from the piston assembly to the desired mounting location. The piston only has a single inlet port and is pressurized only when ejecting the chute. There is no pressure when resetting the piston and reloading the chute.

Place a small amount of 5 minute epoxy onto the bottom of the chute door hinges. Insert the hinges thru the pre-routed slot in the chute tube fuse bulkhead. Tape the chute door in place onto the fuse. Reaching thru the fuse, press the hinges down making contact with the chute tube. Allow the epoxy to cure fully.

Remove the chute tube hold down screw and remove the chute tube from the aircraft. Use Aeropoxy the permanently glue the chute door hinges to the chute tube. See photo #7.

Chute system instructions cont’d.

A small notch will need to be cut into the fuse where shown in photo #8. This notch allows the chute door to swing wide open when the chute deploys.

Assemble the chute attachment block using the molded block and eyebolt provided. See photo #9 Rough fuse bottom approximately 1.25" in from rear of fuse. Aeropoxy block in place as shown in photo #10 and allow Aeropoxy to cure fully. Notice the chute cable attached to the eyebolt using the small swivel latch provided with the system.

Make a small notch in the bottom of the chute tube bulkhead using a Dremel tool. See photo #11. This is the notch that the chute cable will pass thru.
