Fiberglass/Foam Plugs.
fiberglass/foam plugs are for making a male production tool, and require 3 separate steps to complete. Step 1 making a male plug, making a female plug (fiberglass), making the male tool. ie: production 2 piece fuel cell molds are made using this method.
Custom Mold Work
We offer the following types of mold work.
Fiberglass molds made using custom plugs:
Fiberglass/Plastic molds made using an existing part: We will not copy other manufacturer's parts, so do not ask.
NOTE...this would include all existing parts under current manufacture, or so retained by the original manufacturer or it's assignee's. Molds produced using this method are used solely to replace an obsolete or damaged parts no longer being manufactured. The mold used for such purposes will remain the property of Details 4 Scale and will not be released for any reason, unless prior approval is first obtained in writing, before commencement of any work.
One-Off Molds:
one-off molds allow for taking one part from a male or female mold and are intended for one time custom reproductions. This is the least costly form of tooling and requires the modeler to putty, prime and smooth the part after molding. Parts made from this method are usually large fiberglass fuselages, cowls, large fuel cells etc...
Urethane/Silicone Molds
urethane/silicone molds are used exclusively in the manufacture of composite spinners and require a C.N.C. aluminum plug. The plug must be certified to have been spun by the machinist at the anticipated full running RPM before a tool will be made for a spinner. The aluminum plugs can be customer supplied (certified) or supplied and certified by us for use in the manufacture of the tools. Due to the potential for liability of composite spinners, a signed and notarized waiver of liability is required upon final test of the tooling before the tooling will be released to the customer. We do not make spinners for racing purposes.
Plaster Molds:
plaster molds are usually made for production vacu-forming of canopies or for simple fiberglass part reproduction where cost is the primary concern. We also make plaster molds for rubber castings, including custom scale tires.
Custom Fiberglass Parts
We offer custom molding of epoxy glass parts, including fuselages, vacuum bagged parts, Kevlar fuel cells...From your molds or molds we make for you.
